A landmark UN Security Council sanctions Monitoring Team report has explicitly named The Resistance Front (TRF) in connection with the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, marking the first formal UN mention of the outfit in this context. The report confirms that TRF claimed responsibility twice—on the day of the attack and the following day - alongside releasing a photograph of the incident site, before retracting the claim on April 26.
Notably, the report cites one unnamed member state stating the attack “could not have happened without Lashkar‑e‑Taiba (LeT) support,” while another called TRF “synonymous with LeT.” A third member state disputed this, saying LeT was “defunct”.
This inclusion comes despite Pakistan’s earlier diplomatic success in removing TRF’s name from a UNSC press statement. The Monitoring Team’s language is adopted by consensus of all UNSC members, making the mention of TRF a major diplomatic win for India. India had built a strong case with dossiers and briefings to UN bodies, seeking TRF’s designation under the 1267 sanctions regime.
