Dheeraj Kansal, a 25‑year‑old chartered accountant who checked into an Airbnb near Bengali Market on July 20, was discovered deceased in his room on July 29, police said. When he failed to check out, staff detected a foul odour and alerted Barakhamba Road police .

Officers entered his room to find a helium cylinder connected via a pipe to his mouth and a transparent plastic sheet over his face and neck - evidence pointing to deliberate suffocation by helium gas inhalation, a method not previously recorded in Delhi .

Investigators recovered a suicide note - and a deleted Facebook post - where Kansal explicitly stated, “no one should be blamed for my death. This was my choice alone.” He described life as devoid of meaningful connections and requested that his savings be donated and his organs given to those in need .

Sources revealed Kansal ordered the helium cylinder online from Ghaziabad days before. He lost his father in childhood and lived alone in Delhi; authorities confirmed no foul play and are investigating further.
