In a shocking revelation, Bhopal Police arrested Bangladeshi national Abdul Kalam, who had been living in the city for approximately 8–10 years under the identity “Neha Kinnar,” claiming to be transgender. The case came to light following a tip-off that prompted a detailed probe.
Abdul entered India illegally as a minor and lived across Mumbai, West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra, and finally settled in Bhopal’s Budhwara and Mangalwara areas. During this time, he successfully obtained crucial identity proofs, including an Aadhaar card, ration card, and even a forged Indian passport, which he allegedly used to travel abroad.
Authorities are verifying Abdul’s gender status - whether he is biologically transgender or simply used the identity as a cover. Investigators are looking into potential links with an organised document-forgery ring, especially involving other transgender community members.
Two local youths have been arrested for allegedly assisting Abdul in procuring forged documents. Abdul is currently held under the Foreigners Act, and deportation proceedings are being initiated pending further investigation - including analysis of call records and past movements.
This case has underscored serious concerns about the misuse of vulnerable identities and flaws in document verification systems across India.
