Mohammed Shami returns: Bengal Squad gears up with World Cup hero!

Senior India pacer Mohammed Shami has been included in the Cricket Association of Bengal’s 50-member list of probables for the 2025–26 domestic season, signaling his readiness to return to competitive cricket after a prolonged injury and form slump .

The 34-year-old, sidelined from India’s tour of England due to fitness issues, has not featured in top-level matches since the 2025 IPL, where he struggled with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, taking just six wickets in nine outings at a hefty economy rate. However, Shami had previously starred in India’s victorious Champions Trophy campaign in March 2025, finishing as one of the team's leading wicket-takers with nine dismissals .

The probables list also includes established players like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Akash Deep, currently on tour with the national side in England . Shami is also in contention for selection in the East Zone squad for the season-opening Duleep Trophy, set to begin on August 28. A strong showing could pave the way for a full-fledged comeback in both domestic and international cricket.
