At around 8 AM on Monday, June 16, 2025, a sudden short circuit sparked a fire in the lavatory of the Daund–Pune DEMU shuttle train near Yevat, Maharashtra . Dense smoke billowed through the coach, and a passenger - locked inside - began screaming for help.
Quick-thinking fellow travelers broke down the toilet door and pulled the trapped commuter to safety just in time . Meanwhile, railway officials and fire department teams promptly reached the site, extinguishing the flames in under half an hour, preventing any major damage .
Despite its intensity, the fire did not result in any injuries - passengers were safely evacuated . The incident echoes a previous AC coach fire earlier this year, reinforcing concerns over electrical faults in DEMU units .
Rail authorities have launched an investigation to identify the cause and inspect onboard wiring safety. Passengers are urged to remain cautious and report any signs of smoke or sparking during journeys.
