Police Verification in Just 5 Days? India's Passport Revolution is Here!

On the 13th Passport Seva Divas, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the nationwide rollout of e-Passports and the upgraded Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Version 2.0. The initiative underscores the government's commitment to delivering citizen-centric, tech-enabled services. PSP V2.0, now fully implemented across India, incorporates advanced technologies to boost efficiency and transparency in passport services.

A key highlight was the mPassport Police App, which has reduced police verification time to 5–7 days in 25 states and union territories. Additionally, ten new Post Office Passport Seva Kendras were established, including the 450th in Kushinagar. Mobile passport vans are also extending services to remote areas.

Jaishankar noted that pilot testing of Global PSP V2.0 is underway in Indian missions abroad. The introduction of e-Passports featuring chip-based data promises faster, more secure immigration through contactless processing.
