Strong Lift, Silver Glory for India!

At the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships in Førde, Norway, Mirabai Chanu delivered a stellar performance to win silver in the women’s 48 kg division with a combined total of 199 kg. The gold went to North Korea’s Ri Song-gum, who dominated by setting new marks and winning all three lift categories. Thanyathon Sukcharoen of Thailand secured the bronze with a total of 198 kg, just 1 kg behind Chanu.

This silver adds to Chanu’s distinguished career: she is an Olympic medallist, a former world champion, and one of India’s most accomplished lifters. Earlier in 2025, she had won gold at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in the redefined 48 kg class, setting multiple records.

India’s weightlifting contingent, with Chanu at the forefront, now carries momentum into the rest of the Championships, aspiring for more podium finishes across categories.
