Chandratal Lake, also known as the Mystical Moon Lake, is a stunning high-altitude lake in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti Valley. Its name comes from its unique crescent shape, which resembles a glowing slice of the moon surrounded by rugged Himalayan peaks. Sitting at around 4,300 m above sea level, the lake remains frozen in winter and becomes accessible only during the short summer season.
The lake is fed by glaciers and reflects shifting hues of blue, green, and turquoise, depending on sunlight and weather, creating a magical, mirror-like surface. This serene beauty against stark mountains gives it a mystical aura that mesmerizes travellers and nature lovers alike.
Chandratal lies between Kunzum Pass and the Spiti Valley, surrounded by alpine grasslands and seasonal wildlife. It is also part of popular trekking routes, attracting adventure seekers and photographers. Beyond its natural charm, the lake holds cultural significance in local folklore, adding to its legend and appeal. Its breathtaking scenery and peaceful ambience make it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the Himalayas.
