Something interesting is happening across Indian campuses. Students are no longer waiting for graduation to chase big dreams. Many are building companies while still attending lectures.
According to the GUESSS India 2023 report, 32.5% of Indian college students are already working on entrepreneurial ventures, higher than the global average of 25.7%. Even more telling, 31.4% plan to start their own ventures within five years, showing that this is not just a trend but a long-term shift in career thinking.
So what is driving this change?
Access plays a huge role. Nearly half of students now have entrepreneurship education, and many receive university support such as mentorship, funding guidance, and infrastructure. Government policies and India’s growing startup ecosystem are also making risk-taking feel more realistic than ever.
Interestingly, while about 69.7% of students still aim for jobs right after graduation, that number drops to 52.2% over time as more begin considering entrepreneurship.
The message is clear: campuses are no longer just producing job seekers. They are shaping job creators.
If this momentum continues, the next wave of iconic Indian startups may not come from corporate boardrooms, but from hostel rooms and college cafeterias.
