On Instagram, Gen Z looks happy, confident, and always winning. On LinkedIn, they appear focused, ambitious, and career-driven. But behind these perfectly curated profiles lies a growing emotional burnout.
For today’s young generation, social media isn’t just about sharing moments - it’s about performing different versions of the self. One platform demands aesthetic lives and constant happiness, while another pushes productivity, achievements, and success stories. This constant switching between identities creates an invisible pressure to always be “doing better.”
Many Gen Z users admit feeling anxious when scrolling through timelines filled with promotions, side hustles, travel photos, and life milestones. The comparison accelerates their personal timelines, making them feel late, stuck, or unsuccessful - even when they’re doing just fine.
Experts say this pressure to prove worth online leads to self-doubt, emotional exhaustion, and burnout. Even when users know social media shows only highlights, the impact feels real.
The result? A generation exhausted from pretending - just to belong online.
