Nestled in Upper Siang district, Damro Gidum is a tranquil village of under 500 residents, famed for housing Arunachal Pradesh’s longest hanging bridge, a 1,000 ft suspension marvel crafted entirely from bamboo, cane, and wire, which sways gently over the Yamne River. The bridge, supported by iron cables and halved bamboo planks, is primarily a lifeline for tribal communities, who traverse it daily to tend fields and transport goods. Visitors are drawn to its thrilling sway and the chance to gaze down at vibrant riverine fish, many even fish from the bridge itself .
Damro is the ancestral home of the Adi Padam tribe, known for its vibrant traditions, colorful Donyi-Polo sun–moon worship rituals, and domesticated mithun (Indian bison) herding. The village’s charming thatched bamboo houses and wide meadows reflect a serene, slow-paced lifestyle.
Adventure seekers can stay in eco-lodges like Yamne Abor, just a 40-minute hike from the bridge, and explore nearby waterfalls, tea gardens, and trekking routes toward Pasighat and Yingkiong. Local flavors—smoked pork, raja chili chutney, and apong (rice beer)—offer a taste of tribal culinary heritage.
Accessible from Pasighat airport (42 km) and Dibrugarh (232 km), Damro is best visited between October and April for mild weather. It’s a hidden northeastern gem that fuses engineering ingenuity, cultural richness, and pristine natural beauty.
