It sounds unbelievable, but some animals can live without a heart. While humans depend on this organ to pump blood, certain creatures survive using completely different systems.
Animals like jellyfish, starfish, flatworms, and sea sponges don’t have a heart at all. Instead of blood circulation, their bodies rely on simple processes like diffusion, where oxygen and nutrients move directly through their tissues. Jellyfish, for example, don’t even have blood or a brain. Their thin, soft bodies absorb oxygen straight from the surrounding water, and nutrients spread through a central cavity.
Starfish use seawater to transport nutrients, while sponges constantly filter water through their bodies to survive. These organisms have very simple body structures and low energy needs, which is why they don’t require a complex organ like a heart.
It’s a fascinating reminder that life doesn’t follow one fixed rule-nature always finds unique ways to survive.
