Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) is likely to secure two submarine contracts from the central government worth over ₹1.06 lakh crore before March 2026.
The first is the ₹70,000-crore Project 75I, partnering with German firm thyssenkrupp Marine Systems to build six advanced submarines with air independent propulsion systems. The second ₹36,000-crore contract involves constructing three additional Scorpene-class submarines.
Contract negotiations for P-75I are beginning, while Scorpene discussions have concluded. The P-75I submarines will feature 45-60% indigenisation, with technology transfer enabling defense manufacturing self-reliance. Deliveries will start seven years after signing for P-75I and six years for Scorpene vessels, with subsequent submarines delivered annually.
