A tragic incident unfolded on Friday morning at Piplodi Government School in Manohar Thana, Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, when the roof of a dilapidated school building collapsed at around 8:30 am. Officials confirm that at least seven children died and 29 others were injured, with two in critical condition receiving intensive care.

Around 40–60 students along with teachers were present during morning prayers when the structure gave way. Parents and villagers - joined by staff and emergency responders - rushed to the scene, pulling children from the rubble and sound of cries of panic filled the area.

The school building had reportedly been in poor condition, with local residents and representatives previously issuing warnings to authorities about its unsafe state.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep grief, directing prompt medical care for survivors and ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. Education Minister Madan Dilawar also confirmed that the state will bear medical expenses for the injured and demanded accountability. Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed condolences on social media, calling the event “tragic and deeply saddening.”
