The morning commute turned into a test of patience for Delhi Metro passengers on Thursday as the Blue Line struggled with unexpected delays caused by a cable theft. The incident, which occurred between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations, disrupted the plans of thousands, leaving many frustrated during peak office hours.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) wasted no time in addressing the situation, turning to social media to keep passengers informed. On X (formerly Twitter), they announced, “There is a delay in services on the Blue Line due to a cable theft... The inconvenience is regretted.” Passengers were urged to plan for longer travel times.
On X, many users expressed their frustration, flooding the comment section with their reactions. One user wrote, "Chuha chori kar ke le gaya cable." Another asked, "What does that even mean?" A third user questioned, "How do thieves access the wires? It's an elevated corridor." Adding to the conversation, one user wrote, "I was late by 30 minutes today because of Delhi Metro. Due to which both my money and time were lost. I paid the full amount for my tickets. Then what is your liability? Who will discover my loss?" Another user mentioned, "Should've informed earlier."
Despite the chaos, the DMRC assured that full-fledged repairs would begin only after the metro's operational hours ended for the day. The cable theft incident also sheds light on the vulnerabilities in public infrastructure. The Blue Line connects Dwarka to Noida and Vaishali, cutting across vital business districts and residential areas. A hiccup here affects countless lives in real-time.
Incidents like these bring attention to the critical need for enhanced security measures to protect such essential services.
