In a breathtaking performance at the World Test Championship Final on June 12, 2025, Australian captain Pat Cummins reached the prestigious 300‑wicket milestone, finishing with phenomenal figures of 6‑28 against South Africa at Lord's. His fiery spell not only propelled Australia into a dominant position but also marked several record-breaking achievements.
Cummins became the eighth Australian bowler to reach 300 Test wickets and the first fast-bowling captain since 1982 to take a five-wicket haul at Lord's. Moreover, with six wickets in the innings, he set the record for the best bowling figures by a captain at the iconic ground. His 14th career five-for also equaled legendary Richie Benaud and surpassed Indian spin great Bishan Singh Bedi in captaincy hauls.
Early wickets dismantled South Africa at 138 all out, thanks to Cummins' incisive bowling and a stunning diving catch from Marnus Labuschagne to dismiss Temba Bavuma. Australia closed Day 2 with a comfortable lead of 218 for 8, with Cummins reflecting that the match was "pretty close to 50‑50" heading into Day 3.
This milestone underscores Cummins' exceptional leadership and durability as a pace bowler - overcoming injuries to cement his place among the all-time greats.
