On the morning of Sunday, June 29, 2025, a tragic accident in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district claimed four lives and injured three others. Construction workers were filling a 10-foot-deep trench near Jangi Ka Nagla village, part of a pipeline installation, when heavy rainfall loosened the surrounding earth and caused the soil to collapse upon them.
Twelve labourers were present when the mishap occurred; some managed to flee, but seven became trapped under the heavy, rain-soaked ground. Rescue efforts commenced immediately, involving police, local administration, SDRF, NDRF, and civil defence teams. Earth-moving machines were deployed to clear the debris and extract the affected workers.
Bharatpur District Collector Qamar Chaudhary confirmed that six individuals were pulled out alive—four of them sustaining injuries that required hospitalisation—while four others were found dead at the site. The victims were identified as Anukul (22), Vimla Devi (45), Vinod Devi (55), and Yogesh Kumari (25). Two of the injured received bedside treatment, and one was admitted to the district hospital.
The India Meteorological Department noted that the monsoon had recently advanced into more parts of Rajasthan, bringing rainfall in the preceding 24 hours. The heavy rains are believed to have destabilised the trench walls, triggering the collapse. Authorities are investigating the incident and reviewing safety protocols for excavation work.
