In a deeply disturbing event, five members of a family in Bihar’s Saran district were burnt alive in a brutal act of violence fueled by accusations of witchcraft. The victims, including three women and two children, were allegedly targeted by villagers who believed the family practiced black magic.
The incident took place late at night in Mubarakpur village under the Baniyapur police station area. The victims were asleep when a group of people allegedly locked the doors of their house and set it ablaze. A sixth family member sustained severe burns and is undergoing treatment.
The shocking crime has triggered outrage and grief, with the surviving family members left in disbelief. “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when I got the call in the middle of the night,” said a relative who rushed to the scene upon learning about the fire.
Local residents claim that tensions had been brewing for months, as the family was often blamed for illnesses and deaths in the village. Despite there being no evidence, the accusations escalated into mob violence. The case has once again highlighted the dangers of deep-rooted superstition and lack of awareness in certain rural regions.
Police have detained several suspects and an investigation is underway. Authorities have also promised strict action against those involved. The incident has sparked calls for better education and awareness campaigns in rural areas to combat such harmful beliefs.
