Air India has disbursed ₹25 lakh interim compensation to the families of 147 of the 229 deceased passengers aboard Flight AI 171, as well as 19 victims who died on the ground in Ahmedabad crash. In total, 166 families have received the funding so far, with compensation for another 52 bereaved families pending document verification and to be released soon.
This payout follows Air India's initial announcement on June 14, 2025, to provide ₹25 lakh per deceased and surviving victim to meet immediate financial needs. The amount will be adjusted against eventual final compensation as per aviation law and liability norms under the Montreal Convention.
Tata Sons, Air India’s parent company, has established the AI‑171 Memorial and Welfare Trust, pledging an additional ₹1 crore ex‑gratia for each deceased person, and supporting reconstruction of the damaged B.J. Medical College hostel. The trust will also offer support to first responders, medical staff, and relief workers involved in the aftermath.
Air India’s CEO Campbell Wilson visited Ahmedabad, deploying over 200 trained personnel—including caregivers and counsellors—to assist families. The airline affirmed cooperation with ongoing investigations led by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), DGCA, UK AAIB, and U.S. NTSB.
