Good news for highway travelers - toll charges have been reduced by up to 50% on certain national highways. The new rule applies to road stretches where more than half the distance is made up of bridges, tunnels, flyovers, or other such structures. This change was announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and came into effect on July 2, 2025.
Earlier, tolls were calculated at a much higher rate for these stretches. Now, the government has changed the formula to make it fairer. For example, if a 40 km road is all bridges or tunnels, the toll will now be charged as if it's 200 km, instead of the earlier 400 km - cutting the toll in half.
This move will benefit people driving on expressways like the Dwarka Expressway, hilly tunnels, and many urban bypasses. It’s expected to make travel cheaper for both regular drivers and transporters, especially in areas where roads are mostly elevated or tunneled.
