Ukraine announced on Saturday, July 5, that it had successfully struck the Borisoglebsk airbase in Russia’s Voronezh region, calling it a key site for Russian Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-30SM fighter jets. The attack marks a bold move by Ukraine, targeting assets deep inside Russian territory as part of its ongoing strategy to weaken Moscow’s aerial superiority.
The strike came as Russia launched its largest drone attack yet, firing over 300 drones and decoys into Ukrainian territory overnight. Ukrainian forces intercepted and neutralized a majority of them, but some still got through, causing civilian casualties. At least two people were killed and over two dozen injured in cities including Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi.
This exchange of fire comes at a time when hopes for diplomatic progress appear increasingly slim. The war, now in its fourth year, shows no signs of slowing down. Analysts warn that with both sides escalating, the path to negotiations is growing even more distant.
