BTS, the world’s biggest K-pop group, has reunited after completing their military service. Their first group project is a new Happy Meal collaboration with McDonald’s, which includes mini BTS figures. Back in 2021, their first McDonald’s meal became a huge success, but this time the reaction is very different.
Instead of excitement, many fans are upset. On social media, ARMYs expressed disappointment, saying the group should not work with a brand linked to global controversies, especially during the Israel-Palestine conflict. One fan wrote, “The fact that they don’t care is so clear.” Another added, “I skip their songs now—I can’t connect with this version of BTS.”
This backlash comes just weeks after Kim Taehyung (V) became the face of Coca-Cola Zero, which also faced criticism for its alleged political ties. For many fans, BTS once represented music with a message-songs like Spring Day and Not Today gave them hope. Now, repeated brand endorsements feel like a contradiction.
The controversy shows how global stars like BTS are no longer judged only by music, but also by the values behind their choices.
