In Hindu tradition, Tuesday (Mangalvar) is governed by the fiery planet Mars (Mangala) - a deity representing energy, courage, and power. To harmonize Mars’s intense influence, devotees perform rituals centered around the color red, the sacred hue of Tuesday worship .
Red clothing, red flowers (especially hibiscus), sindoor, and red cloth offerings are commonly used in Hanuman puja, since Lord Hanuman embodies Mars's protective strength. Devotees often light red-saffron lamps with mustard or ghee oil and chant mantras like “Om Mangala Devaya Namah” or the Hanuman Chalisa to invoke blessings of courage, discipline, and resilience .
Many observe Mangalvar Vrat - a Tuesday fast - wearing red and offering red lentils or jaggery to Hanuman to mitigate Mangal Dosha (Mars affliction). Legends speak of Tuesday fasts bringing health, success, and the removal of obstacles when observed for 21 weeks .
By embracing red on Tuesdays, worshippers align themselves with Mars and Hanuman, transforming volatile energy into divine strength and protection.
