Reliance Jio has launched JioPC, a virtual desktop service that transforms televisions into cloud-powered personal computers. Available to JioFiber and Jio AirFiber subscribers, JioPC operates through the company's set-top box, requiring only a connected keyboard and mouse. Users can access a cloud-based Ubuntu Linux desktop, equipped with 4 virtual CPUs, 8GB RAM, and 100GB of cloud storage. The platform comes pre-installed with productivity tools like LibreOffice and offers browser-based access to applications such as Microsoft Office 365.
JioPC is currently offered with a one-month free trial. Post-trial, subscription plans start at ₹599 per month, with longer-term options available. The service emphasizes affordability and aims to bridge the digital divide by providing computing access to households without traditional PCs.
While the current version supports basic peripherals like keyboards and mice, future updates are expected to include compatibility with devices such as webcams and printers. JioPC's cloud-based nature ensures data security and eliminates the need for hardware maintenance, making it a practical solution for students, professionals, and families seeking cost-effective computing options.
