A viral social media post claimed that an Indian startup, Sun‑Ways, is installing removable solar panels between railway tracks across India generating massive electricity without disrupting rail services. The image went viral with sensational promises like powering 200,000 homes annually.
Fact checks by India TV, NewsMeter, Urban Acres, Newschecker, and others revealed the truth: the project is a pilot in Switzerland, initiated by the Swiss firm Sun‑Ways near Buttes. The same viral image was traced to Swiss media reports, and there is no evidence of India’s involvement.
Indian Railways is indeed investing in green energy but through rooftop and land-based solar installations, not between tracks. Over 2,249 railway stations and related buildings have equipped solar systems, and renewable capacity of over 211 MW (solar) and 103 MW (wind) has been commissioned.
