In a move to curb tensions after a communal clash-turned-deadly incident in Bhadrak, Odisha, authorities have extended the suspension of internet services in Bhadrak town, Bhadrak municipality, Dhamnagar NAC, Dhamnagar and Tihidi blocks until 6 p.m. on June 13. The blackout follows the tragic death of Santosh Parida - a local man who succumbed to injuries sustained in a violent altercation over illegal cattle transportation on May 30 .
Originally imposed from 6 a.m. on June 12 for 24 hours, the online shutdown was extended by an additional 12 hours as a preventive security measure . Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout emphasized that the suspension aims to halt the spread of misinformation and forestall further unrest .
With 12 arrests made so far, authorities have deployed 27 police platoons across sensitive zones, and the state government has announced a ₹10 lakh compensation and a job offer for a family member of the deceased. Senior officials continue to facilitate inter‑community dialogue to ensure lasting peace .
