In a swift response to public outrage, the Kerala government has suspended a revenue department official following defamatory remarks made about Renjitha, a victim of the recent Air India crash in Ahmedabad. The official had posted insensitive and baseless comments on social media, questioning Renjitha's character in the horrifying aftermath of a crash that claimed dozens of lives.
Kerala's Revenue Minister, K. Rajan, confirmed the suspension on June 13, calling the posts "highly objectionable" and emphasizing that such behavior by a public servant undermines public trust. He added that the remarks were not only disrespectful to the victim’s memory but also damaging to the dignity of the state office.
The government announced a full departmental inquiry, and disciplinary action will follow based on its findings. While the official remains unidentified publicly, authorities emphasized that no tolerance will be shown for defamatory content, especially when targeting crash victims and their families during their time of grief.
Public reaction has been swift, with calls for greater accountability and stricter controls over officials’ online conduct. This incident spotlights the growing expectation for civil servants to maintain respect and empathy, both on duty and online.
