The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has taken a major step towards future-ready education by forming a dedicated team to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) textbooks for Classes 11 and 12. The initiative aims to equip students with advanced digital, analytical, and computational thinking skills required in a technology-driven world.
The move aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises integrating emerging technologies into school curricula. The upcoming AI textbooks will cover concepts such as data handling, machine learning basics, ethical use of AI, and real-world applications, making learning more practical and skill-oriented.
NCERT also plans to introduce AI learning at earlier stages of schooling. Exposure to AI concepts is expected to begin from Class 3 onwards in the coming academic years, ensuring students develop familiarity with technology from a young age. Additionally, AI-based projects have already been included in vocational education modules to promote hands-on learning.
This initiative marks a significant shift in India’s education system, aiming to prepare students not just for exams, but for future careers shaped by artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
