The Delhi government announced plans to establish a flagship cultural and commercial center known as the PM Ekta Mall. Proposed by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), the project is part of a central government initiative to promote "Make in India" and strengthen rural artisan networks. The mall will be funded under the Centre’s Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, which provides interest-free loans repayable over 50 years.
Key Features & Strategic Locations
• A Mini-India Under One Roof: The mall will feature 36 dedicated stalls, one for each State and Union Territory, ensuring a comprehensive display of India's diverse handicrafts, handlooms, and GI-tagged products.
• Potential Locations: Officials are currently scouting high-footfall areas to ensure commercial viability. Shortlisted locations include Netaji Subhash Place (Pitampura), near Dilli Haat (INA), or the administrative hub at Majnu Ka Tilla.
• More Than Just a Mall: Spread across approximately 1,200 square metres, the complex will include:
• Regional Food Courts: Serving authentic cuisines from different parts of the country.
• Cultural Spaces: Areas for live performances, exhibitions, and summits.
• Modern Infrastructure: State-of-the-art conference halls, parking facilities, and recreational open spaces.
Economic Impact
The PM Ekta Mall is designed to act as a "permanent marketplace," removing middlemen and giving rural producers direct access to Delhi’s massive consumer base. The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities while boosting tourism by offering a one-stop destination for authentic Indian heritage products.E
