Dussehra, also called Vijayadashami, celebrates the victory of good over evil-Lord Ram defeating Ravana and Goddess Durga defeating Mahishasura. Across India, each state brings its unique traditions alive, making the festival magical for children and families.
North India: States like Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Bihar host Ramlila performances for 10 days, ending with giant Ravana effigies set on fire. Children learn truth, courage, and devotion in an unforgettable way.
West Bengal: Dussehra coincides with Durga Puja. Families worship grand idols of Maa Durga for nine days before immersing them in rivers, introducing kids to art, community, and devotion.
Karnataka: Mysuru Dasara lights up the palace with thousands of lights and a royal procession featuring Goddess Chamundeshwari, showcasing heritage and cultural pride.
Maharashtra: Families exchange apta leaves, symbolizing gold, teaching children sharing and togetherness.
South India: In Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh, Bommai Golu displays dolls and mini stories, while Himachal Pradesh celebrates with week-long fairs and processions.
No matter the region, Dussehra teaches children that goodness always triumphs over evil, blending fun, culture, and values.
