The Trump administration has intensified its crackdown on foreigners accused of violating U.S. immigration laws. The CBP Home App, launched during Trump's presidency, is gaining attention for its self-deportation feature, now promoted by Musk.
Ranjani Srinivasan, a Columbia University student, self-deported after her student visa was revoked for alleged Hamas support. She used the app's "Intent to Depart" feature on March 11, six days after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) canceled her visa. DHS verified her exit through video evidence, making her one of the first to utilize this function.
The CBP Home App allows individuals to notify authorities of voluntary departure, check border wait times, apply for I-94 entry forms, request agricultural inspections, and submit traveler manifests. The self-deportation feature is part of Trump’s cost-cutting immigration strategy. Musk has endorsed the app, calling it a "clean exit" for illegal immigrants. Available on iOS and Android, the app streamlines border processes while reinforcing stricter immigration policies.
