A shocking incident has unfolded in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, where a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, went missing just two days after its installation. The statue, a one-and-a-half-feet tall stone figure, was installed in an open space in Bari village, located about 12 km from the district headquarters.
The incident came to light when locals filed a complaint with the police, reporting the theft of the statue. Additional Superintendent of Police, Vedita Dagar, confirmed that a case of theft had been registered and that authorities were working swiftly to apprehend the culprits. "We received a complaint regarding the theft of Dr. Ambedkar's statue, and the accused will be arrested soon," she said.
The statue was purchased through crowdfunding by the villagers, who sourced it from Uttar Pradesh. According to Bari village's Sarpanch, Asharam Ahirwar, the villagers had worked hard to install the statue as a symbol of respect and pride for Dr. Ambedkar. "The statue was just installed two days ago," Ahirwar said, expressing disappointment over the theft.
The police have reportedly detained two suspects and are questioning them in connection with the incident. The news has sparked outrage among the villagers, and the community is eagerly waiting for justice to be served.
This theft has raised concerns over the security of public monuments and the need for stronger protective measures.
