Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that India’s new core - Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal - has the potential to take the team forward much like Virat Kohli once carried the side during a transitional phase.
In a recent interview, Vaughan noted that it’s not easy to move on immediately after legends retire, but India is already seeing strong leadership and performance from the next generation. "You can’t move on so suddenly after two legends have retired or moved out of the team. But Shubman has made an incredible start as both a captain and a player", he said.
He also praised Pant’s resilience following his comeback from injury and Jaiswal’s bold stroke play at the top order. Vaughan’s comments reflect growing global recognition of India’s promising young talent stepping up in the post-Rohit and post-Virat era.
With these rising stars, he suggested, India doesn’t just have a strong future - they have leaders ready to shape it.
