Hassan district in Karnataka has reported a disturbing pattern, 22 sudden deaths linked to heart-related conditions have occurred in the last two months, with the majority of the victims being under the age of 45. This unexpected trend has alarmed both residents and health officials.
While most of the victims reportedly collapsed suddenly without any prior symptoms, several were declared brought dead upon arrival at hospitals. Among the cases, 14 were males and 8 females. These incidents have raised serious concerns about the increasing vulnerability of young and middle-aged adults to cardiovascular diseases.
Although post-mortem results are pending, doctors suggest multiple possibilities: increased lifestyle stress, sedentary habits, poor dietary practices, and undiagnosed pre-existing conditions such as hypertension or diabetes. Experts also highlight the role of limited access to preventive health care in smaller towns.
In response, the Hassan district administration has initiated awareness campaigns on cardiac health, encouraging regular check-ups and lifestyle modifications. Cardiologists stress the urgent need to educate people about recognizing early symptoms and acting promptly. With heart ailments on the rise even among the youth, officials say this could be a wake-up call for better health infrastructure and awareness in rural and semi-urban regions.
