In a hiring landscape that’s shifting fast, students are proving that a polished resume isn't everything. Many are landing internships at top startups and companies by showcasing real-world skills, side projects, and strong personal branding instead. With platforms like LinkedIn, Notion, and GitHub, building a digital portfolio has never been easier - and often speaks louder than a traditional CV.
A growing number of Gen-Z applicants are also using cold emailing and direct DMs to bypass the competition. Recruiters increasingly value proactive communication, creativity, and problem-solving over formal experience, especially in roles like marketing, content, design, and tech.
This shift is backed by research: a 2023 Handshake report revealed that 72% of early-career recruiters prioritize skill fit over resume prestige. Similarly, a LinkedIn Workplace Learning report emphasized how portfolios and demonstrated work are now key hiring factors.
So, no resume? No worries - your skills, story, and hustle can still get you in the door.
