In a strategic push to upgrade rail infrastructure, the Union Cabinet has approved two major multitracking projects valued at ₹6,405 crore, aiming to revolutionize travel across multiple states. This includes the doubling of the Koderma - Barkakana line in Jharkhand and the Ballari - Chikjajur line in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, both slated for completion within three years .
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that these expansions will significantly reduce congestion, increase capacity, and promote regional economic development . With India's current rail network under immense pressure, the initiatives are expected to boost both passenger comfort and freight throughput, offering seamless connectivity in key commercial and rural areas.
These projects are part of the broader PM‑Gati Shakti master plan, reinforcing India's shift toward more efficient, sustainable transportation. By unlocking rail bottlenecks in mineral-rich and agriculturally vital regions, such upgrades are projected to generate employment opportunities and lower logistics costs.
As groundwork begins, travelers may soon witness smoother journeys, shorter wait times, and a new era of rail-powered growth across these states.
