Growing your own watermelon at home is not just possible, it’s surprisingly easy and rewarding.
All you need is a sunny space, the right soil, and a little care. Watermelons thrive in 8–10 hours of sunlight, well-drained soil enriched with compost, and consistent watering-especially during the fruiting stage.
Begin by sowing seeds indoors in peat pots or directly outdoors if you live in a warm climate. Keep vines healthy with organic pest control like neem oil and manage pollination by ensuring bees can access flowers. Watch out for pests like aphids and fungal issues-remove infected leaves immediately.
In 60–90 days, your watermelon will ripen. Look for a creamy yellow underside, a hollow sound when tapped, and dried tendrils near the fruit-your cue to harvest!
With just a balcony and a little care, you can enjoy the unmatched sweetness of homegrown melons all summer long.
