What if the waste from your kitchen did not end up in a landfill, but returned to your neighbourhood as rich compost for parks and gardens? That is exactly what NDMC is trying to make possible with its new initiative, “गीला कूड़ा लाओ, खाद ले जाओ.” At the time of the rollout at Kaka Nagar, Sh. Rajiv Kumar Jain, Advisor, Solid Waste Management, NDMC, and Dr. Ankita Rai, Medical Officer, were also present.
Launched under the leadership of NDMC Chairperson Sh. Keshav Chandra, IAS, the programme encourages residents to bring segregated wet waste from their homes. This waste is processed locally and converted into organic compost, right within the colony. The compost is then reused for parks, plantations, and even home gardening.
The initiative has started in three residential areas, Kaka Nagar, Sarojini Vihar, and West Kidwai Nagar. The goal is simple, reduce pressure on landfills, improve soil health, and involve citizens directly in waste management.
More than just a cleanliness drive, the programme promotes a circular economy, where waste is not thrown away but reused meaningfully. With active community participation, NDMC hopes to transform these neighbourhoods into “Anupam Colonies”, cleaner, greener, and more sustainable places to live.
Sometimes, real change begins with something as small as a kitchen bucket.
