How to build a Career in the Indian Coast Guard?

For those drawn to India’s seas and security, the Indian Coast Guard offers an honorable and high-impact career path.

First, candidates must meet eligibility criteria depending on the role. For Assistant Commandant (General Duty), one needs a bachelor’s degree—with Physics and Mathematics in 10+2—and must be between 21 and 25 years old. Technical branches demand engineering degrees; legal entry is open to law graduates. Non-officer roles also exist:

  • Navik (General Duty / Domestic Branch),

  • Yantrik (Technical).
For example, Navik GD requires 10+2 with Physics & Mathematics; Navik DB can accept 10th pass candidates.

Next comes the selection process: a written exam, physical fitness tests, document verification, and a medical examination.  For Assistant Commandant, the pay scales begin from approximate ₹56,100 (PL-10) and go up as one rises in rank.

To stay updated, aspirants should monitor official ICG recruitment notifications and apply through the Join Indian Coast Guard portal. With dedication, physical fitness, and solid academic preparation, a career in the Indian Coast Guard can be both rewarding and patriotic.
