The father of the woman who filed an FIR accusing an IIM Calcutta student of rape has strongly refuted the claim, stating his daughter fell out of an autorickshaw and was unconscious when she arrived at Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital. He said she told him “no one tortured her or misbehaved with her” and was recovering well, adding she had been instructed by police to sign certain documents during her medical exam.
Initial reports detailed a disturbing allegation: the complainant was lured under the pretext of a counselling session, allegedly drugged with medication slipped into a drink, and assaulted inside a boys’ hostel. The accused student has been arrested and remanded in custody until July 19.
IIM Calcutta has issued a statement asserting it has “zero tolerance for such incidents”, is fully cooperating with law enforcement, and is “upholding a safe and respectful campus environment,” while urging the public to avoid speculation. The director‑in‑charge emphasised the importance of due process and confidentiality for all individuals involved.
With conflicting narratives emerging—between the FIR’s serious allegations and the father’s denial—the case has sparked nationwide scrutiny. Authorities are now working to reconcile the testimony with medical and forensic evidence as the investigation proceeds.
