YouTuber Gaurav Taneja (Flying Beast) went public on July 10 after his Zomato birthday cake delivery was cancelled due to heavy rains in Gurugram. To make amends, Zomato sent a handcrafted hamper featuring chai goodies, family treats, balloons, and a heartfelt apology note, also cheekily including a flask - since it was Zomato’s birthday too.
The note read: “Dear Flying Beast… You’ve always shown us so much love… here's a chai hamper brewed with care… little surprise for Mumma, Papa, Dadu, and Dadi… and a flask… P.S. next time cheesecake bhi time pe hoga. Pakka. Pinky promise.”
His post went viral, driving polarized online reactions. Many praised Zomato for going the extra mile; others criticized the "influencer privilege", pointing out that average users often receive only a ₹75 refund coupon for cancellations .
This incident highlights a recurring question in customer service: Should influencers receive preferential treatment? Zomato's gesture - though well-meaning - has ignited conversations about equity, brand behavior, and public perception.
