Joe Root delivered a batting masterclass on Day 2 of the third Test at Lord’s, notching up his 37th Test century in style. With this knock, Root surpassed Indian legend Rahul Dravid in the all-time Test hundreds list and matched Steve Smith’s remarkable tally of 11 centuries against India - now the joint-most by any batter.
Root reached the landmark with a boundary off Jasprit Bumrah, steering the ball elegantly past third slip. His innings was a blend of patience and flair, holding England’s innings together as India’s pace attack probed for breakthroughs.
This century further cements Root’s legacy as one of the modern greats of the game. He now stands behind only Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45), Ricky Ponting (41), and Kumar Sangakkara (38) on the all-time Test centuries leaderboard.
As England aims to build a commanding first-innings total, Root’s knock could prove decisive in turning the tide of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series.
