The India Skills Report 2026 provides a detailed overview of which academic degrees offer the strongest job prospects for students in today’s rapidly changing employment landscape. At the top of the list are Computer Science and Information Technology degrees, both of which show exceptionally high employability. This rise is driven by increasing demand across industries for professionals skilled in artificial intelligence, data science, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and automation. Engineering graduates also continue to perform well in terms of employability, reflecting the ongoing need for technically skilled talent across sectors like manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, and technology.
Interestingly, the report notes a slight decline in the employability of MBA graduates. While still strong, the numbers indicate that general management degrees are no longer sufficient on their own. Employers now prefer candidates who combine managerial training with specialized digital, analytical, or domain-specific knowledge. This shift highlights the growing importance of practical business-tech integration in the modern workplace.
On the other hand, commerce graduates are showing a positive upswing. Their employability has climbed due to a surge in demand for skills in finance, business analysis, operations, taxation, and supply chain management. With businesses increasingly relying on structured financial planning and data-driven decisions, commerce backgrounds are becoming more valuable again. Meanwhile, non-technical science graduates continue to maintain steady employability, particularly in fields connected to research, biotech, pharmaceuticals, and environmental sectors.
The report also sheds light on the performance of arts and humanities graduates, whose employability remains comparatively lower. However, there is gradual improvement as new interdisciplinary and creative roles emerge in digital media, communication, psychology, design, policy, and social sectors. This indicates that while traditional arts jobs may be limited, evolved skill sets can open up new pathways.
