India is confident of meeting oil needs from alternative sources if Russian supplies are hit by secondary sanctions, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Thursday. This follows President Trump's warning that countries purchasing Russian exports could face sanctions if Moscow fails to reach Ukraine peace within 50 days.
Puri noted India has diversified suppliers from 27 to 40 countries, with new entrants like Guyana and existing producers Brazil and Canada available. Russia currently supplies 35% of India's oil, followed by Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and UAE.
"I'm not worried at all. If something happens, we'll deal with it," Puri said. Indian Oil Corp Chairman A.S. Sahney confirmed the company would revert to pre-Ukraine crisis supply patterns if needed.
