As tensions between Israel and Iran explode, India is bracing for ripple effects that could strike close to home. From rising fuel prices to stranded workers, the fallout could be wide-ranging. With over 18,000 Indians in Israel and several in Iran, the Indian government has put embassies on high alert, even as no official evacuations have been announced yet.
India’s neutral stance, urging restraint from both sides, reflects its delicate position. While India shares strategic ties with Israel in defense and tech, it also depends on Iran for oil and fertilizer imports - which are already limited by U.S. sanctions. A further escalation could spike global oil prices, hammering India’s inflation and economic recovery.
The biggest worry? A potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route. That could strangle energy supplies and cause serious trade disruptions. With tensions boiling over in West Asia, India is walking a diplomatic tightrope - trying to protect its citizens, economy, and strategic interests all at once.
