Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has introduced a groundbreaking messaging app called P2P (Peer-to-Peer), designed to function without internet connectivity. Developed by his company Bluesky, the app utilizes Bluetooth and mesh networking technology, allowing users to communicate directly with nearby devices even in areas with poor or no internet access.
The app operates on a decentralized protocol, ensuring that messages are transmitted without relying on a central server, thereby enhancing privacy, censorship resistance, and resilience in emergencies or authoritarian environments.
P2P is currently in beta mode, and early users have praised its potential for usage during natural disasters, protests, or in remote areas. Dorsey’s backing of such a tool aligns with his consistent push for decentralized, open-source platforms as alternatives to mainstream, ad-driven tech.
While it's not positioned to replace apps like WhatsApp or Telegram immediately, P2P represents a significant shift in how communication technology can function independent of corporate control or infrastructure dependency.
