On June 26, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the deep cultural and emotional role languages play in shaping national identity. Speaking at an official event, Shah stated,"Languages are not just a medium of communication, but the soul of the nation."
He called for active preservation, promotion, and enrichment of Indian languages, noting that linguistic diversity is one of the country’s greatest strengths. Shah highlighted the need for educational institutions, cultural bodies, and the general public to contribute to keeping regional and indigenous languages alive, especially as India modernizes.
His comments align with broader national efforts to promote multilingual learning, digital inclusion of vernacular languages, and protection of endangered dialects. Shah's statement comes at a time when globalization and technology are challenging the survival of several local languages.
By declaring language the "soul" of the nation, the minister reinforced a message of cultural continuity, pride, and unity in diversity.
