Security forces in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district intensified their manhunt for three to four suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists on Thursday as the third day of search operations continued in the dense forest of Kanzal Mandu, in the Kuchal–Chatroo belt.
The operation began Wednesday evening following specific intelligence and an initial encounter with the militants. A joint team comprising the Army’s White Knight Corps, 2 Para commandos, 11 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operations Group, CRPF, Assam Rifles, Jammu & Kashmir Police, drones, and sniffer dogs have sealed off the area under a multi-layered cordon. The heavily forested terrain has hindered visibility, and while intermittent firing was reported late Wednesday, no fresh contact occurred on Thursday.
Officials believe one terrorist sustained injuries during initial exchanges, and they suspect Jaish militant Adil may be among the group. Reinforcements were deployed overnight to strengthen the cordon and prevent escape.
The renewed search comes amid rising militant activity in the region, which has seen several similar operations in recent weeks, including the elimination of a Pakistani Jaish commander in nearby Udhampur.
With the Amarnath Yatra underway, authorities remain vigilant to ensure both the safety of pilgrims and the effectiveness of counter-insurgency operations.
