Prime Minister Narendra Modi begins a state visit to the Maldives from July 25 to July 26, 2025, at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. This marks his third visit to the country and is the first by a head of state under President Muizzu’s administration.
Modi will attend the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives on July 26 as the Guest of Honour a key symbol of trust and friendship between the two nations.
During the two-day visit, Modi and Muizzu will engage in high-level talks on regional cooperation, economic collaboration, maritime security, infrastructure, and climate-related partnerships. Several joint projects will be inaugurated, and multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed to deepen collaboration across various sectors of mutual interest.
This visit comes after a period of strained ties under previous Maldivian leadership. It is seen as a strategic reset in relations and reflects India’s focus on its “Neighbourhood First” policy and maritime presence via Vision MAHASAGAR.
