Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently hailed Operation Sindoor as the "finest example of self-reliance" in India's defence sector. Addressing a gathering in Pune, he emphasized that the operation demonstrated the nation's growing capability to execute complex military missions using indigenous equipment.
Launched on May 7, 2025, in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor involved precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The operation showcased the effectiveness of homegrown technologies, including the Akashteer air defence system, which successfully intercepted all incoming threats.
Minister Singh highlighted that prior to this, India had limited domestic defence production, relying heavily on imports. However, the success of Operation Sindoor underscores the nation's strides towards achieving defence sovereignty through indigenous innovation.
This development aligns with the government's broader vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), aiming to reduce dependency on foreign defence equipment and bolster national security.
